About Sàgona Honorine

Some bottles hold more than just wine. They encapsulate a story, a character, a place. Even an emotion. Sàgona Honorine, the wine from the small Tuscan winery Sàgona, is one such bottle.

Its name is no coincidence. Honorine is a character from the novel Total Khéops, penned by the French author Jean-Claude Izzo. Published in 1995, this work is the first instalment of the renowned Marseilles trilogy, a landmark in contemporary crime fiction. Yet beyond the crime and investigation, what truly resonates in Izzo's books is the city of Marseilles, with its cultural amalgam, its port, its Mediterranean, its people.

The protagonist, Fabio Montale, is a melancholic ex-policeman, a lover of jazz, poetry, wine, and memories. In this emotional universe, several women appear who leave a mark on his life. Not as heroines of grand gestures, but as silent and essential presences. One of them is Honorine; maternal, warm, steadfast. A character who supports without seeking the limelight. Who accompanies. Who gives meaning to the small things. This subtle and unforgettable presence was the spark that inspired the creation of this wine.

The Sàgona winery, situated in a secluded area between Florence and Arezzo, at the foot of the Pratomagno mountain (Tuscany), also works quietly. Since 2012, Daniele and his team have been restoring ancient vineyards and century-old olive trees, cultivating organically and moving increasingly towards biodynamic practices. Their philosophy is clear: to craft wines that speak of the landscape and honour their natural timing.

From these slopes emerges Sàgona Honorine, a wine made from 100% sangiovese, the queen grape of Tuscany. It ferments spontaneously with native yeasts, macerates for just one night, and spends 6 months in concrete tanks to preserve its freshness and purity intact.

Just as in Jean-Claude Izzo's literature, where food, wine, music, the sea, and memories matter, each bottle of Sàgona embodies a way of life. Sàgona Honorine is a subtle, fluid, elegant rosé that is not merely consumed. It is evoked.
