About Roagna Barbaresco Pajé

Roagna Barolo Pajé is a biodynamic cask-aged red wine produced by Roagna with the Nebbiolo variety in the DOCG Barolo, in Piedmont (Italy). 
 
Owners of some of the best Barolo and Barberesco plots, Roagna began its trajectory at the beginning of the 20th century in the hands of Vincenzo Roagna. It’s now run by Lucas, the fifth generation, who’s been able to transmit the winery's style by producing traditional wines with long macerations and structured with an incredibly precise purity of fruit.
 
Roagna Barolo Pajé comes from the winery's largest plot in Barbaresco. A cru of only 1.83 hectares with 40 year old vines planted on calcareous marl soils with a high content of active limestone. These vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and biodynamic treatments, and harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the Roagna Barolo Pajé grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts in open oak vats for 10 days. Afterwards, a long post-fermentation maceration of 60-70 days is carried out by sinking the cap. Finally the wine ages in large old oak foudres for 18 months. 
 
Big glasses and time are the best weapons for enjoying Roagna Barolo Pajé red wine. An extraordinary pleasure with body and harmonious balance. 
 
2015
Roagna Barolo Pajé 2015 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit, nuanced notes of roses and hints of spices, minerals and tobacco. On the palate it’s silky, full-bodied and elegant. A wine of great intensity with ripe, well-interwoven tannins and a seductive sweetness. The finish is fruity, ethereal and with an extra long finish.
