Oporto (75 cl.).

Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto is a light red wine (with 101.2 g/L of sugar). The nose displays aromas of dried and soft fruits, like plum and walnut. The palate is dense, with fresh fruit (plum, blackberry) over a very powerful background of dried fruits that are typical of aging.

About Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto

In the world of wine, talking about Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto is like talking about mascara in the world of cosmetics; not because it is used to make you look nice, but because it was so successful that all ports became known by this name. The brand name ended up becoming the name of the product, just like with Coca-Cola. No one would think of ordering this type of soft drink with a different name in a bar, would they? In the 19th century, no one would have thought of ordering port saying anything other than “a glass of Adriano, please”. This phenomenon, known as the lexicalisation of a brand, is one of the greatest achievements a product can have. And Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto achieved this thanks to the vision of founder Adriano Ramos Pinto, who gave his name to the winery he founded in 1880 and where this wine is made. Undoubtedly, he was a visionary and well ahead of his time. He had an expert handle on advertising and merchandising, making the D.O. Porto and the Douro Valley (northern Portugal) known around the world.

This is the area where they have quintas and vineyards growing Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao and Touriga Franca grapes used to produce Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto. These hundred year old vines grow in the 286 hectares owned by this legendary winery. The soils and characteristics are varied, from clusters that grow at 110 metres above sea level to those that grow at 600 metres above sea level on silt loam and granitic soils. Respect for the land and a deep knowledge of it are the other keys to this company, which since the very beginning has invested a lot of resources in research and innovation. This is how they have managed to cope with the cold, wet winters and extremely hot, dry summers (with a strong ocean influence).

After the Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto grapes have been harvested, they are sent directly to the winery, where they are destemmed. For port wines, the varieties are not usually separated, and they are all vinified together. When they reach the winery and the stems have been removed, the Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto grapes are fermented, staying in contact with the skins. During this process, the yeasts transform the sugars in the must into alcohol, until the process stops when the desired sugar level has been reached. To do this, wine alcohol is added, creating an atmosphere where the yeasts cannot continue to survive, thus creating a powerful and sugary wine. Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto, like all tawny wines, will be aged for at least 6 years in typical 550 litre Portuguese barrels, known as pipas.

Coco Chanel once said “everything in fashion goes out of fashion; style never does”. And Ramos Pinto Adriano Tawny Reserva Porto is a wardrobe essential, or rather a wine cellar essential, that no home should be without. A wine that despite everything, and no matter what, never goes out of fashion.
