About Philippe Pacalet Nuits-Saint-Georges

Philippe Pacalet Nuits-Saint-Georges is a monovarietal Pinot Noir red wine made by Philippe Pacalet under the AOC Nuits-Saint-Georges / Côte-d'Or in Burgundy, France.

 

Philippe Pacalet Nuits-Saint-Georges is a wine made with grapes from vines with an average age of 45 years that grow in plots where clay-calcareous soils predominate, with a layer of pebbles and clay over limestone on the surface. The vineyard is east-facing and has a fresh and sunny microclimate. Winemaking begins with carbonic maceration of the classified whole grapes and without adding SO2. Pigeages are applied twice a day for four weeks.

 

Alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts, without temperature control. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in pieces and the resulting wine goes through an aging without racking and under its lees for 16 months.

 

Philippe Pacalet is an outstanding producer who knows how to masterfully obtain the best from each terroir he works with and does so under the principles of minimal intervention, something he learned from his uncle Marcel Lapierre, a recognized promoter of the natural wine movement. Pacalet is a wine craftsman, a "developer of terroirs" who delicately and with know-how contributes to the vines expressing themselves, leading to frank and direct wines which have the stamp of elegance of the artisan who produces them.

 

2018 Philippe Pacalet Nuits-Saint-Georges 2018 is an easy to drink red wine that offers aromas of red and black berries on the nose, accompanied by a mineral note. On the palate it’s pleasant, tannic and slightly saline. An elegant and direct natural red wine.
