About Lustau Oloroso Pata de Gallina

Lustau Oloroso Pata de Gallina is a fortified wine crafted by Bodegas Lustau located in Jerez de la Frontera, D.O. Jerez-Xerés-Sherry.

Bodegas Lustau, established by José Ruiz-Berdejo i Veyan in 1896, has undergone a transformation from its origins as a stock keeper to its current status, boasting three wineries in different cities within the Sherry Triangle: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Bodegas Lustau owns two vineyards in the Sherry Triangle: the Viña Montegilillo, featuring albariza soils ideally suited for cultivating the Palomino grape, from which the musts for the production of manzanillas, finos, amontillados, and olorosos are obtained. And Viña Las Cruces, located near the coast with sandy soils where Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez are grown for the creation of sweet wines.

In recent years, Bodegas Lustau has been producing its range of Almacenista wines. Through these wines, Lustau aims to pay tribute to these "craftsmen" of wine. An almacenista was a viticulturist who produced and aged his own wines but, due to a lack of commercial contacts, ended up selling his production to larger wineries. Today, their status as almacenistas does not allow them to bottle wine for public sale, which has led to the disappearance of many, though those who remain possess exceptional criaderas and soleras.

Lustau Oloroso Pata de Gallina is a fortified wine made from the Palomino Fino grape. It is selected from an exclusive solera of just 38 barrels belonging to the almacenista Juan García-Jarana.

It is a fortified wine with over 20 years of age, which was originally conceived as a Palo Cortado but evolved into an oloroso.

Lustau Oloroso Pata de Gallina is an oxidatively aged wine, intense and concentrated. On the nose, it reveals aromas of dried fruits and tobacco. On the palate, it is intense, sharp, with a very long finish and a subtly sweet aftertaste.
