About Montecastro
Montecastro is a single-varietal barrel-aged red wine made from tempranillo by Montecastro Bodega y Viñedos in the DO Ribera del Duero (Castilla y León).
Montecastro is the venture of a group of friends who, in the year 2000, joined forces to make their dream a reality: to produce quality wines in the heart of the Ribera del Duero. This winery began its journey with the support of the French oenologist Bertrand Erhard and eventually caught the attention of none other than Peter Sisseck. Consequently, since 2012, the prestigious expert's winery group, Hacienda Monasterio, has been responsible for the technical aspects of their new productions. A range of fresh and highly elegant wines with international acclaim.
Montecastro comes from an exceptional vineyard with predominantly calcareous soils, located in one of the highest areas of Ribera del Duero, at an altitude of 860-930 metres. They practice environmentally friendly agriculture, avoiding the use of pesticides, and limit the yield of the vines. The result is a concentrated grape with excellent acidity.
In terms of production, Montecastro undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and a maceration period of about 15 days in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. It is then aged in French, American, and Eastern European oak barrels for 17 months.
Under the guidance of the esteemed Peter Sisseck's team, Montecastro is only produced in exceptional vintages. A red wine from the Ribera del Duero that not only has the backing of renowned public figures like Julio Iglesias and Pedro J. Ramírez, but also offers the best value for money. Undoubtedly, a wine with a fortunate star.
