About Milsetentayseis Tinto

The elevation at which Fuentenebro is situated—a mining village located at the highest point of the DO Ribera del Duero—lends its name to Milsetentayseis, the new red wine crafted by Alma de Carraovejas

The old vineyards are the foundation of this project, from which a unique wine is crafted, capturing the essence of this terrain where century-old vines have been restored, thriving at over 1,000 metres above sea level. If at 850 metres above sea level, temperatures can easily shift from 34°C during the day to 8°C at night, one can easily imagine the extreme conditions in this high-altitude viticulture. Thanks to these conditions, the vines are pushed to their limits, yielding high-quality raw material, including indigenous varieties such as tempranillo, albillo real, monastrell, and garnacha

Part of this uniqueness is also attributed to the soils—rich in minerals but poor in nutrients—comprising clay, muscovite, quartz, and mica. Thanks to this blend, unique in the world, the vines are compelled to give their utmost, resulting in wines with tension, that are unique and unrepeatable, with a distinctive character.

In the case of Milsetentayseis Tinto, each plot is vinified separately, extracting the utmost expression possible. This is only achievable with an exhaustive understanding of the area, appreciating the peculiarity of each vine and each terrain. Only in this way can the full essence of Milsetentayseis Tinto be captured in the winery. Only the finest grapes will be used, to be vinified in concrete, wood, or stainless steel (depending on their characteristics). Finally, Milsetentayseis Tinto will undergo 18 months of ageing in French oak vats, with their profile and usage also dictated by the character of each vintage.

In the DO Ribera del Duero, in Castilla y León, nature has posed a challenge in Fuentenebro. And Alma de Carraovejas has chosen to accept it. The outcome could not be more remarkable. Open a bottle and judge for yourself.
