Tasting notes Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Tinto 2020
Red wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 18 months in French oak barrels used.
Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Tinto 2020 greets you with a delightful burst of fresh and enveloping aromas. This wine unfolds in layers of black fruits such as blackberries and plums, intermingled with delicate notes of fresh herbs and a subtle menthol touch. Its maturation in oak barrels imparts roundness and a smooth texture. On the palate, it is balanced and well-structured, with well-integrated tannins that fade into a long and elegant finish. This wine stands out for the harmony between fruit and structure, making it both a pleasant option for new wine enthusiasts and an intriguing discovery for more seasoned palates. The 2020 vintage adds a remarkable balance, rounded off by the maturity of its components in just the right measure.

About Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Tinto
Although his first wine was white, Miguel Barroso Louro isn’t afraid to try different things. So much so that he has even been hired as an oenologist in the German region of Mosel to produce Riesling, a grape variety and wine that is completely different to the viticulture practiced in his native Alentejo. Son of the also controversial Miguel Louro (from Quinta de Mouro), Miguel junior is known for following his heart, even if that means going against the grain of what is popular. His focus is on native varieties, respectful agriculture and traditional methodology that takes us back in time.
This is the context in which Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Tinto is made, a coupage of the native Aragonese, Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira red varieties grown in Estremoz, without the use of chemicals that could harm the environment, and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. In the winery, the grapes macerate and ferment in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts and a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine is aged for 16 months in third-use French oak barrels.
This is how Miguel Barroso Louro Primeiro Nome Tinto is made, a wine whose name means “first name” Portuguese, telling us that it still has a lot to offer. A simple and discreet wine but one that is filled with the potential of the Estremoz sub-region (Alentejo).
