About Michelini i Mufatto A Merced

Michelini i Mufatto A Merced is a wood-aged red wine made by married couple Michelini i Mufatto together with Javier González using the native Mencía variety in the D.O. Bierzo, in Castilla y León. 
 
After working on different projects in their native country, winemakers Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini left Argentina in search of a new project that would allow them to showcase the place, the climate and its people in the most natural way. This is how they fell in love with some forgotten vineyards in a small village in Bierzo and created their own winery in 2015 with the help of Javier González from Bierzo with the aim of cultivating native varieties and making pure and fresh wines. 
 
Michelini i Mufatto A Merced grapes come from a single century-old vineyard in the Leonese municipality of Molinaseca. These are recovered old vines that are planted on clay and quartz soils and that have achieved a limited production of high quality through respectful agriculture. 
 
Once the grapes are harvested by hand, the whole clusters used to make Michelini i Mufatto A Merced are fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in clay jars with a gentle maceration of 5 months. The wine is then aged for 8 months in French oak barrels. Finally the wine is bottled without being filtered. 
 
Maximum respect for the native fruit, minimal intervention and very particular winemaking techniques have turned Michelini i Mufatto A Merced into a Bierzo wine with its own quality stamp, celebrated by Parker himself.
 
2019

Michelini i Mufatto A Merced 2019 is a smooth red wine. On the nose, it is exceptionally delicate and pure, exuding floral notes, succulent fruit, wild herbs, and an array of red and black berries. The palate reveals complexity and depth, underscored by a firm structure. Refined tannins. The acidity is delectable and inviting. It's refreshing and elegant. The finish is prolonged.
2017 Michelini i Mufatto A Merced 2017 is a red wine with a subtle nose of red and black berries mixed with wild herbs and balsamic notes. The palate is fresh, delicate and light. A wine without excess with polished tannins, well-integrated acidity and a long finish with earthy notes.
