Luis Cañas Selección de la Familia Reserva 2020 is an elegant, enveloping, and sophisticated red wine that invites one to explore its complexity. On the nose, it entices with notes of damp foliage, moss, cedar, and undergrowth, interwoven with delicate spicy and balsamic hints of thyme and rosemary, imparting freshness and harmony. On the palate, it presents as fluid and balanced, with gentle tannins that caress the palate, leaving a long, flavoursome, and persistently pleasurable finish, akin to a stroll through a forest at dusk where each aroma gradually reveals itself.

About Luis Cañas Selección de la Familia Reserva

Luis Cañas Selección de la Familia Reserva is a red wine from Rioja produced by the Luis Cañas winery. This winery is located in the town of Villabuena, La Rioja Alavesa.

Luis Cañas Selección de la Familia Reserva is made with Tempranillo (85%) and supplemented by other red varieties (15%).

The grapes come from a selection of old vines more than 45 years old. These vineyards are planted on very poor soils that ensure high quality and low performance.

For the preparation of Luis Cañas Selección de la Familia Reserva, a traditional winemaking is held. The alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26 and lasts 18 days. The wine isaged for 20 months in new American (50%) French oak barrels (50%).

Once bottled, the wine spends 18 months more in the bottle in the cellar. We recommend decanting an hour before enjoying.

On the nose, it offers good intensity with notes of ripe fruits such as plums and blackberries, accompanied by a hint of jam and a background of fine woods and balsamic nuances, evoking eucalyptus and pine. On the palate, it is powerful and dense, with a well-defined structure and noticeable tannins. Its finish is broad, complex, long, and persistent.

2012 Luis Cañas Selección de la Familia Reserva 2012 is a red wine with a more modern and concentrated style, with delicious aromas of ripe fruit and toasted notes that the malolactic in the barrel brings. One of the most balanced vintages.
2009 Powerful and fleshy entry. Good volume with sweet and tasty step. Very good acidity, round tannins. Long and complex.

Cherry red medium-high layer ruby rim. Clean and bright.

Intensely aromatic with a predominance of ripe red fruit. Sweet, spicy and lactic notes and a somewhat earthy balsamic background.
2008 Excellent bulkiness since its attack to the finish. Very great acidity, ripe tannnins, pretty sharp, and slightly bitter and long finish with a great persistence which gives it seriouseness and presence.

Dark cherry red colour with ruby edge. Clean and bright with high robe. Thin and elegant tear.

Medium-high intensity. Very expressive extremely ripe red fruit, almost jam, accompanied by spiced, lactic and roasted notes which give it a sweet character. Refreshing balsamic hints in the background complete this very interesting nose.
2006 This red wine has magnificent bulk from its attack right until the end. Very good acidity, ripe somewhat dry tannins and a long, slightly bitter finish giving the wine a serious seal. Good persistence. 

Dark, pretty picota cherry colour with ruby rims. Clean, bright and high-robe. Fine and elegant tears stain the glass.

Medium-high intensity. This new vintage shows very ripe red fruit, almost jammy, very expressive, accompanied by spicy, toasted and lactic notes that make the wine appetising. Refreshing balsamic notes in the background compliment a very interesting nose.

2004 Powerful, deep and very tasty wine with a long mid palate in which the complexity felt on the nose is displayed again with very expressive, fleshy notes, a velvety texture, good well integrated tannins and a good acidity. Very long.

Nice and clean cherry red colour with violet edges. Clean and bright wine with a high robe and abundant tears.

Frank, intense and concentrated aromas. Its abundant notes of sweet ripe fruit are released along with a wide amount of different spicy notes of vanilla, pepper, mocha and cocoa, smoky nuances and milky notes provided by the wood on an intense balsamic background.
2003 The mouth is powerful, dense with a structured step-by-mouth, with good tannins. The finish is huge, complex, long and persistent.

Beautiful ruby color, clean, with reflexes atejados. Clean and bright.

Nose is clean, good intensity. Memories of ripe fruit, jam (jam) on a background of woods, with a strong balsamic (eucalyptus, pine).
