Los Yesares is an ecological, wood-aged red wine made by Bodega Cerrón with the Monastrell variety in the D.O. Jumilla, in the Murcia region (Spain).
Bodega Cerrón is a young and innovative project created by the Cerdán family in the Fuente-Álamo area, in the upper part of the D.O. Jumilla. The aim of this winery is to recover the local winemaking tradition that has been around since 1895 and that has been passed down generation after generation to produce wines that tell stories of the land.
Los Yesares comes from vineyards lying on slopes at 920 metres above sea level. These are old vines planted in 1942 on limestone soils with flint stones and sand with seashells. They are cultivated using ecological agriculture and no chemical products, choosing biodynamic treatments instead. The yield is low and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
In the winery, Los Yesares ferments spontaneously with native yeasts and 15-20% of the stalks in open barrels. Maceration lasts about 50 days and then the wine is aged for 12 months in used oak barrels. Finally, the wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering.
Just like the other wines in the Cerrón collection, Los Yesares, which means gypsum quarry, is a tribute to life in the countryside and its people. A fresh, fruity and persistent Monastrell that promises a good long life.
