José Antonio García Viticultor Julia 2022 is a red wine that captivates from the outset with its vibrant ruby hue. About José Antonio García Viticultor Julia

If someone had told a chef from Castelldefells (Catalonia) that he would end up cultivating vineyards on his grandparents' land, it would probably have sounded like madness. Yet, this is how José Antonio García's project was born in Bierzo, a region where the valley and the mountains intertwine to create wines with a unique character. The lands of Valtuille de Abajo and Corullón, inherited from different branches of the family, became the perfect setting for creating something extraordinary.

Amidst century-old vines, slate soils, and unique microclimates, organic and traditional viticulture is practised, tending to each plant as if it were part of the family. Green pruning, moderate thinning, and treatments with sulphur and copper keep the vineyard's essence alive. Julia Peña also joined this venture, a life and work partner, with whom every harvest and every step of the journey has been shared.

One of the wines that embodies this philosophy bears its name: José Antonio García Viticultor Julia. Crafted from the mencía variety and a small percentage of native white grapes, it originates from vineyards aged between 80 and 100 years. Sandy soils in the lower parts and slate at higher altitudes provide texture and minerality, while the continental climate with Atlantic influences imparts freshness and character.

The harvest is carried out manually, in 14-kilogram boxes, and fermentation takes place in foudres with native yeasts, without temperature control, to preserve the grape's authenticity. After 6 months of ageing in barrels, José Antonio García Viticultor Julia emerges in the glass as the tale of a place, a family, and a dream realised. Pure essence of Bierzo!
