About Foradori Sgarzon Teroldego
Italy is a land of dialects, and what a marvel it is! From Neapolitan in the south to Venetian in the northeast, encompassing Sicilian, Lombard, Sardinian and many more, every corner of this country harbours a unique linguistic richness that is an essential part of its cultural identity. Although standard Italian is the official language, primarily derived from the Tuscan dialect and popularised by figures such as Dante Alighieri, each region, and even each village, has its own dialect that reflects its histories, traditions, and geography.
Trentino, in the north of Italy, is a prime example of this diversity. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Dolomites, this region blends Ladin, Venetian dialects and, in some areas, even German influences. It is a vibrant area, full of life, stories, and heritage. It is in this landscape steeped in history and nature that figures like Elisabetta Foradori have worked diligently to preserve and empower that heritage. An oenologist who has devoted her efforts to rescuing and giving due recognition to the indigenous variety teroldego, a true local gem that, like the dialects, reflects the soul of Trentino.
In her family winery, located in the picturesque village of Mezzolombardo, Elisabetta crafts wines with this local variety that possess a depth and typicity comparable to the great nebbiolos, sangioveses, or aglianicos. In honour of her land and language, she names one of her most cherished wines with a name laden with meaning: Foradori Sgarzon Teroldego. The word "Sgarzon," which in the local dialect means "sapling" or "young shoot," evokes freshness, vitality, and a profound connection with the land. A single-variety wine that originates from a 2.5-hectare plot of alluvial soils, predominantly sandy, and whose vineyards are entirely cultivated under biodynamic principles. Moreover, yields are drastically reduced to achieve wines of great concentration and complexity. Following a spontaneous fermentation in clay amphorae, the wine remains there for 8 months, maturing with the same patience and care with which traditions are preserved.
Just as words and dialects bring life to every corner of Italy, Foradori Sgarzon Teroldego is a wine born from the very land that gave it life, a land rich in history, tradition, and authenticity. An invitation to discover the freshness and essence of the IGT Vigneti Delle Dolomiti, in the heart of Trentino.
