Red wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 14 meses en barrica.

El Hato y el Garabato Sin Blanca 2019 is a wine that astonishes from the very first sip. Its brilliant red hue beckons discovery. On the nose, it unfurls a symphony of floral aromas, interwoven with notes of red fruits like cherries and strawberries, rendering it immediate and captivating. On the palate, it offers vibrant freshness, with a medium body that moves with grace yet retains intensity, accompanied by fine tannins and well-balanced acidity. In 2019, they opted to reduce the alcohol level in the harvest, resulting in a more elegant and refined wine. About El Hato y el Garabato Sin Blanca

"Estar sin blanca" has traditionally meant being penniless in Spanish. However, for José Manuel Beneitez and Liliana Fernández, two forestry engineers who left everything behind to produce wine in Arribes del Duero (Castilla y León), the term takes on an entirely different meaning. In their project, El Hato y el Garabato, a name that combines the hato, a bag where shepherds keep their daily essentials, and the garabato, the free signature of someone creating with intuition, Sin Blanca is a direct nod to their old vineyards. In these century-old plots where grapes grow intermingled, this wine is a red crafted entirely from red varieties, with scarcely any presence of white grapes. A clever countryside jest that demonstrates true wealth lies not in the abundance of resources, but in the character of what is done with freedom and passion.

From the small village of Formariz de Sayago, in the province of Zamora, El Hato y el Garabato Sin Blanca embodies the untamed character of the DO Arribes. The wine originates from a mere 8 hectares of ancient vineyard, with vines surpassing 80 and 120 years of age. These plants sink their roots into arid soils composed of granitic sands and slate, forcing the vine to seek nourishment deep within the rock. The local climate blends the forcefulness of a continental climate with the influence of the Duero river canyons, providing cool nights that preserve the natural acidity of the fruit. The leading variety is the indigenous Juan García, accompanied by a small percentage of other local varieties. True to their training as oenologists, the field management is conducted with absolute respect for biodiversity, culminating in a meticulously executed manual harvest.

In its production, El Hato y el Garabato Sin Blanca adheres to an artisanal and respectful process. After hand-picking the clusters at their optimal ripeness, the alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks to protect the expression of the landscape. Once this process is complete, the wine undergoes 14 months of ageing in French oak barrels, where the wood imparts texture, volume, and complexity without overshadowing the fruit's freshness. Finally, the wine is bottled without fining or filtering, preserving its most genuine profile and the full integrity of its structure.

El Hato y el Garabato Sin Blanca is the ultimate testament that when one works with conviction, grand gestures are unnecessary to create something unforgettable. A sincere, transparent, and vibrant red, perfect for sharing and celebrating the ingenuity of authentic things.
