About District 7 Pinot Noir

Decanter World Wine Awards, the largest and most prestigious international wine competition, annually awards the best wines in the world. Just getting into the competition is an achievement in itself, since thousands of wines apply every time. District 7, the winemaking project nurtured and developed by the Scheid family since 1972 in Monterey County, California (USA), is one of those that has won Decanter medals for its wines.

District 7 Pinot Noir won a silver medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2021, a wine that perfectly reflects the family’s commitment to a sustainable future. The truth is that the Scheid family have spared no resources to create a state-of-the-art winery that runs entirely on renewable wind energy, and this is clear to see in the wine. A single-variety Pinot Noir planted on the northern banks of Monterey’s Salinas Valley on sandy soil where the vines benefit from cooling winds and Pacific mists. The vines are cultivated using completely organic agriculture and once the grapes reach the winery they are destemmed, crushed and fermented in open fermenters for 2-3 weeks with regular cap plunges. The wine then ages in French oak barrels.

District 7 Pinot Noir is an elegant and balanced wine made with Pinot Noir. A red wine that is carefully crafted to reflect the best of Monterey: fruitiness, complexity and structure.
 

2019

District 7 Pinot Noir 2019 is a smooth red wine with aromas of cherries, raspberries and pomegranates accompanied by hints of mocha and vanilla. On the palate it is fresh, vibrant and enveloping. A medium-bodied wine with soft tannins, lively acidity and a finish with a lingering note of sweet oak.
