About César Márquez Pérez Valtuille

César Márquez Pérez Valtuille is a wood-aged red wine made by César Márquez Pérez with the Mencía variety in the D.O. Bierzo, in Castilla y León, Spain.

Nephew of the famous winemaker Raúl Pérez, César Márquez Pérez is one of the promising young winemakers in El Bierzo. His Burgundy-style project seeks to find the typicity of the Valtuille area. He uses old vineyards with different orientations and soils to produce balanced and genuine wines that are faithful to their origin.

César Márquez Pérez Valtuille comes from a spectacular setting in the town of Valtuille. These are hundred-year-old vines planted in clay soils and cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture. The harvest is carried out manually and selectively, depending on the orientation and favouring the shadier areas where ripening happens more slowly, giving the wines lower alcohol and more freshness.

In the winery, César Márquez Pérez Valtuille is made with minimal intervention, the way things used to be done. These are microvinifications using grape stalks and long macerations. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with native yeasts and then the wine ages for 12 months in used French oak barrels.

With freshness and elegance as the two main characteristics of this outstanding winemaker’s wines, César Márquez Pérez Valtuille is a great example of the new generation wines that are placing Bierzo among the regions with the best winemaking potential in the world.
