Christmas wine

29/11/2023 Pairings , Special moments

Christmas is just around the corner, a time for celebration and gathering around the best food and wines for Chistmas and welcome in the new one in style and full of hope.

Traditional dishes are the focus of these celebrations, some of the things we eat only ever come out at Christmas. Carefully prepared culinary delicacies that are worth pairing with the best wines.

Here at Decántalo, we have an extensive catalogue of wines and sparkling wines that are perfect for pairing with most typical Christmas dishes and dressing your festive table for a complete gastronomic experience.

If you still haven’t made up your mind, here are some versatile and delicious wines that we recommend enjoying with your Christmas meals.

Wines for appetisers

Every good celebration includes some nice starters, because they have the job of preparing our taste buds and whetting our appetite. Follow these two principles when choosing a wine to accompany your appetisers and success is guaranteed!

1.- Serve wines that are not too old. Remember that many people do not like or are not used to flavours as complex as those in an old wine.

2.- Avoid wines that are very woody. These can be perfect to accompany other kinds of dishes but they may not be the best option to start the evening.

To make it easier for you, we recommend the following wine that is guaranteed to go down well.

José Pariente Verdejo

José Pariente Verdejo is a Spanish white wine that dazzles with its freshness and elegance. With an intense nose of tropical fruits and citrus, its vibrant and balanced taste reveals floral and herbaceous notes, culminating in a persistent and refreshing finish. Due to its versatility and character, José Pariente Verdejo is the perfect choice to accompany a wide variety of dishes during the holidays, such as appetizers, fresh seafood, white fish, salads, or rice dishes.

For main dishes

Over the festive period, the food we enjoy is as varied as the places where Christmas is celebrated. That is why, to try and keep it simple, we are recommending two wines, a red and a white, which will pair wonderfully with many seasonal dishes and leave people impressed.

Malleolus de Sanchomartín

Malleolus de Sanchomartín is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Duero that dazzles with its bold character and remarkable structure. With intense aromas of ripe red fruits and subtle hints of spices, its palate reveals a balanced complexity with silky tannins and a persistent finish. This Tempranillo is the perfect complement for festive dishes such as roast lamb, beef sirloin, poultry, and aged cheeses. Its richness and elegance make Malleolus de Sanchomartín an exceptional choice to enhance Christmas celebrations with a distinctive touch.

Comtesse de Chérisey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux

Comtesse de Chérisey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux is a captivating white wine from Burgundy, France. With aromas of white fruits, citrus, and mineral notes, this Chardonnay reveals a vibrant structure and balanced acidity. An ideal white wine to pair with seafood, fatty fish, roasted poultry, and pasta dishes with creamy sauces, making it a perfect choice to enhance festive moments with its sophisticated character and great elegance.

Sparkling for toasting

When it comes to celebrating, bubbles are undoubtedly the drink of choice. To welcome in the new year or finish your celebratory meals with a bang, we recommend the following sparkling wine:

Juvé & Camps Reserva de la Familia

Recently selected as the best Spanish wine and the second-best sparkling wine in the world in the Top 100 of the prestigious publication Wine Spectator, we can't think of a better choice to toast this Christmas than Juvé & Camps Reserva de la Familia. This Gran Reserva Brut Nature cava offers a very fine bubble and delightful aromas of fresh apples and white flowers accompanied by hints of Mediterranean herbs and notes of pastry and toasting, characteristic of its long aging. A sparkling wine with a long, profound, and elegant finish, worthy of the grandest of celebrations.

If you want to experiment with new dishes and you are not sure what kind of wine to put them with, remember that regional pairings are usually a safe bet. Try to choose a wine that comes from the same region of the dish you are serving.
