About Benoit Courault La Coulée

Benoit Courault La Coulée is a natural, barrel-aged red wine made by Benoit Courault with the Grolleau variety in Loire (Vin de France).

Although he began training in conventional wineries, Benoit Courault quickly fell in love with wines made without additives and learnt the art of winemaking from the great natural wine expert Eric Pfifferling. In 2006 he and his family settled in Faye d’Anjou, on an estate in a small town in Loire (France). He has 6 hectares that he biodynamically cultivates to make natural wines.

Benoit Courault La Coulée comes from recovered old vines. These vines are planted in soils full of shale and used to be cultivated using chemicals. In 2006 Courault revived the vineyard using biodynamic treatments and preparations. Surrounded by farm animals that contribute to fertilisation, Alphonse, the horse, is his faithful assistant who plows, digs and transports boxes. In the vineyard the yields are limited to 9 hectolitres per hectare and the harvest is manual at the optimum point of ripeness.

In the winery, the Benoit Courault La Coulée grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine then ages in used French oak barrels for 18 months. Finally, it is bottled by hand without clarifying or filtering and only the minimum sulphur is added.

Benoit Courault La Coulée is a natural red wine made with Grolleau, the traditional Anjou variety, in the Loire region. A light and easy to drink wine with a trendy profile.
2016 Benoit Courault La Coulée 2016 is a smooth red wine with aromas of fresh red fruit, notes of wild flowers and spicy touches. On the palate it is light, fresh and very pleasant. An easy to drink and long-living wine.
