About Bela

Bela was the nickname of Sofía, one of the three daughters of Eusebio Real de Asúa, founder of CVNE. Today, it lends its name to the first project of the Rioja-based house in the DO Ribera del Duero, where family tradition discovers a new landscape. The story also continues on the bottle itself. The three stars on the label symbolise the founder's three children, while its design replicates a facsimile of a 1910 label found in one of CVNE's historic buildings. In every aspect, Bela is a small tribute to the past that accompanies one of the regions with the richest winemaking traditions in Castilla y León.

To produce Bela, the winery focuses on Villalba de Duero, where it owns vineyards situated at over 820 metres above sea level. There, over 25-year-old tempranillo vines thrive on gentle, rolling terrain, divided between sandy-loam and clay-loam soils. These soils have low organic matter and a moderate presence of carbonates, which help to shape the wine's character.
The production of Bela adheres to a traditional approach. Following a cold pre-fermentation maceration, the tempranillo ferments in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. Then comes the wood ageing: Bela spends several months in French oak barrels and, once bottled, rests for at least as many months in the bottle before reaching the market.

The result is a red wine that marries the identity of the Ribera del Duero with the expertise of a house that has been crafting wine for generations.

In essence, Bela is a meeting of two stories: that of a family with over a century-long dedication to wine and that of a region continually showcasing everything the tempranillo can express.
