About AMI Volnay

Maison AMI was born out of a friendship between sommelier Paul Marchand-Perarnau and winemaker Willy Roulendes. Ami means friend in French. Paul and Willy are great friends, and this friendship was the reason behind their decision to start making their own wines together in 2014 in the Maranges valley, in the south of the Côte de Beaune. A perfect partnership of two people who had previously worked together at Clos du Moulin aux Moines in Auxey Durresses and whose goal is to produce fun wines for immediate enjoyment.

One of their wines is the AMI Volnay, a red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in Volnay (AOC Volnay/Côte-d'Or). These are old vines planted on clay-limestone soils at 230-280 metres above sea level. They are cultivated using organic agriculture and without the use of chemicals or herbicides.  Harvesting is manual, selecting the best grapes, and vinification happens naturally with fermentation in open stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (32°C). Finally, 25% of the wine is aged in new French oak barrels and the remaining 75% in used barrels for a total of 12 months.

As Volnay is considered the most feminine of the Burgundy wines, AMI Volnay is a delicate, velvety Pinot Noir with great aromatic intensity. A wine to celebrate friendship.

 

2017

AMI Volnay 2017 is a smooth red wine with aromas of ripe red fruit, notes of wild flowers and spicy touches. On the palate it is rich, sweet and enveloping. An easy to drink wine with a refreshing acidity and marked tannins.
