About Albert de Vilarnau Chardonnay Pinot Noir Gran Reserva

It is often said that tradition and modernity are not mutually exclusive, and Vilarnau exemplifies this perfectly. Its story begins as a family getaway: a summer villa belonging to the Arnau family, located very near the Castle of Subirats, right in the heart of the Penedès. Over time, that country house became the epicentre of a dream: to craft cava with its own unique identity.

The first cava from the brand was unveiled in 1949, with the silhouette of Montserrat in the background and the Mediterranean just half an hour away. A landscape that exudes balance with a mountain that shelters, a sea that moderates, and grapes that complete the picture.

In 1982, the history of Vilarnau took a significant turn when it became part of the González Byass group, a move that allowed it to grow without losing its essence. Thus, in 2005, they inaugurated a new winery designed by architect Luis González and designer Antonio Miró: modern, elegant, and seamlessly integrated into the landscape, a visual declaration of what Vilarnau represents—respect for the land, innovation, and style.

Among its treasures is the Albert de Vilarnau Chardonnay Pinot Noir Gran Reserva, a cava that merges two worlds: the finesse of chardonnay and the elegant strength of pinot noir, the first vineyard of this variety planted in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia back in 1991. Harvested at night, the grapes arrive cool and perfect at the winery, where the artisanal process culminates in a second fermentation in the bottle and a minimum ageing of 36 months on lees.

Albert de Vilarnau Chardonnay Pinot Noir Gran Reserva is sophisticated, vibrant, and precise. A cava that looks to the past to reinvent the future.
