About Sierra Cantabria Blanco

Although San Vicente de la Sonsierra is not one of the most renowned villages in the Rioja Alta (La Rioja), it can boast of being an area that produces some of the best wines in the region. Located between the natural boundaries of the Sierra de Cantabria to the north and the river Ebro to the south, the local people have wine in their DNA. Two of those people are brothers Marcos and Miguel Eguren, two pure vine growers who have managed to keep alive the knowledge and tradition of five generations in each of their wines. Under the name Sierra Cantabria, in honour of the 1,200-metre-high mountain range that lies beside the winery and protects the vineyards from the cold north winds, they produce a collection of unique wines with the famous D.O.Ca. Rioja stamp.

One of their wines is Sierra Cantabria Blanco, a wine made with Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo Blanco, Viura and Malvasía grapes from vines between 35 and 70 years old, planted in clay-limestone soils. All of these vines are cultivated in line with the natural biorhythms of this much-loved environment. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand into 20 kg crates and, once they reach the winery, they are destemmed and crushed in the traditional way to achieve a smoother extraction. The must is cold macerated for 10 hours and fermentation is carried out separately. The Sauvignon Blanc is placed in French oak barrels for 2 months with the rest of the grapes in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.

Bearing in mind that the D.O.Ca. Rioja is mainly known for its red wines, especially its crianza wines, Sierra Cantabria Blanco is a great opportunity to discover a white wine as true to the area as any of its reds. A unique coupage that beautifully reflects the DNA of San Vicente de la Sonsierra.

Sierra Cantabria Blanco 2022 is an enchanting white wine, captivating with its delightful bouquet. As one brings their nose closer to the glass, a tapestry of scents unfurls, weaving together notes of apple and peach with delicate hints of lemon zest and an ethereal presence of white blossoms. Upon tasting, it unveils a vivacious and crisp character, with a harmonious acidity that beckons a subsequent sip. The palate's fruity nuances are affirmed, culminating in a clean and gratifying finish that mirrors the quintessence of its terroir.

Sierra Cantabria Blanco 2020 is an aromatic white wine with an elegant nose of fresh white fruit accompanied by fragrant floral notes. On the palate it is enveloping, fresh and well balanced. A very expressive medium-bodied wine where the white fruit and the long, lively aftertaste stand out.
