About Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas tinto

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Tinto is a barrel-aged red wine made by Luis Pato in the DOC Bairrada (Beiras) with the Baga native variety.

Luis Pato is a great champion of the Baga variety and the first in Bairrada to use technological innovations of the time like destemming and aging in new French oak barrels. He was quite a revolutionary character who has managed to perfectly showcase the essence of Portuguese wine.

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Tinto comes from a meticulous selection of old vines over 40 years old planted in different types of soils. They use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

When the best grapes to make Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Tinto have been selected, they are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for over a year in used French oak barrels.

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Tinto is the flagship red wine of well-known Portuguese winemaker Luis Pato. A fantastic red wine that is very typical of the region. A very intense and fresh small production.

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas red 2018 is a sophisticated red wine. On the nose, it is rich and intricate, boasting aromas of wild berries, nuanced woody scents, and subtle toasted hints. The palate is velvety, marked by delicate tannins and a dominance of woody notes and spices such as vanilla, cedar, and mild pepper.
2016 Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas red 2016 is a smooth red wine with aromas of red fruit and notes of sweet spices. On the palate it is juicy, fruity and very balanced. A well-structured, medium-bodied wine with a classic freshness and lightness.
