Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses is a biodynamic red wine made by Domaine Chandon de Briailles with the Pinot Noir variety in the AOC Corton Grand Cru (Burgundy).

Although this historic estate dates back to 1834, it was in 1988 when Claude de Nicolay and his brother Francois took over, with the aim of making authentic wines with no frills to reflect the richness of the terroirs and their varieties. These wines are made using organic and biodynamic practices (Ecocert and Demeter certificates) and with minimal intervention.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses comes from vines with an average age of 45 years old planted in high quality clay and limestone soils. They use organic agriculture and no synthetic products. Biodynamic treatments are also applied to maintain the strain’s natural balance. All work is manual and no machinery is used in the vineyard so as to not damage the terroir.

Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1st Cru Île des Vergelesses starts to vinify spontaneously with 60% of the whole clusters in open cement vats. It then spends between 14 and 18 months in French oak barrels that have been used for a minimum of 8 years. After aging, the wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering.

2019 The Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses 2019 is a red wine that, on the nose, exudes aromas where the presence of red fruits is prominent, complemented by hints of spice, underbrush, and smokiness, with notes reminiscent of licorice. On the palate, it flows effortlessly, with a vibrant acidity, a direct and tannic structure. This red wine has significant aging potential, benefits from bottle maturation, and promises superb longevity.
2017 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Île des Vergelesses 2017 is a fruity red wine with aromas of red fruits, spices and liquorice. The palate is elegant, quite astringent, with good acidity and good structure.
