About Château La Garde Blanc

If there's one thing white wines from the AOC Pessac-Léognan are famous for, it's their minerality. You surely won't overlook this characteristic when you taste some of the offerings that come straight from this region in the south of Bordeaux, in western France. This is largely due to the soil, which is mainly a mix of gravel and clay (in the deeper layers). Currently, with the combination of these two materials, you can find more than 20 different types of soil in the area. The Dourthe family, owner of several properties in Bordeaux, couldn't resist the quality of this terroir, literally starting a true love story with it. This was the main reason why they acquired Château La Garde Blanc in 1990, adding this estate to their group of properties. Who would have told Pierre Dourthe that three centuries after starting his business with Bordeaux wines, his family would be directly connected to them?

Currently, Château La Garde spreads across 54 hectares, scattered among forests and valleys. This entire expanse has been studied and analyzed, finding the variety that best adapts to each area. In the case of Château La Garde Blanc, we have a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (which benefits from the clay) and Sémillon (which thrives on the gravel). The climate of the region, mild and temperate with some humidity, will also be crucial, reflecting the influence of the ocean.

Château La Garde Blanc is produced in the new winery, built and renovated in 2021, where the Dourthe family has made sure to equip the facilities with the latest technology while maximizing the respect for the raw materials. The facilities, clad in stone, have been specifically designed and constructed for this occasion, allowing each variety to express itself fully. In the case of Château La Garde Blanc, the harvest is carefully carried out, selecting the best bunches and always working in an inert atmosphere to ensure the grapes' good condition. Both the fermentation and aging of Château La Garde Blanc take place in wooden vats, with the wine remaining in contact with its lees for almost half a year. Mineral-driven and nothing else!

2022

Château La Garde Blanc 2022 is a precise, tightly-wound, highly energetic, and vibrant white wine. Very concentrated, both on the nose and the palate, this white wine becomes a true display of citrus aromas (with a predominant note of lemon and apple), linden, and menthol. Taut and very lively. Acidic and saline finish. Mineral and aniseed. Well done, Château La Garde!
