About Cèrvoles Tros del Tossal

What if a bottle could tell the story of its landscape without saying too much? In 1997, Tomàs Cusiné discovered the vineyards of La Pobla de Cérvoles (Lleida, Spain) and saw something that was not exactly in vogue at the time: a mountainous terrain where wine could be reimagined from above. Thus, Cérvoles Celler was born, a project that embraced the landscape of Les Garrigues when mountain viticulture was still a rarity in Catalonia.
 
More than two decades later, Cèrvoles Tros del Tossal brings that idea to its smallest expression. Just 1.16 hectares of Syrah planted at 724 metres, on the northern face of the Sierra de la Llena, on calcareous and stony soil where the vines grow among thyme, rosemary, and other Mediterranean plants. It's one of those places where the landscape doesn't stay outside the bottle: it becomes part of it.
 
Cèrvoles Tros del Tossal is a single-vineyard red wine aged for eight months in new French oak barrels. Here, Syrah finds a profound yet refined expression, with black fruit, violets, and that hint of Mediterranean scrub that seems to come directly from the hills. The texture is silky, and the finish is long, leaving the sensation that there is still more landscape to explore.
 
Cèrvoles Tros del Tossal is a red for when the table calls for something special without the need for ceremony. A good dish by the fire, a long after-dinner conversation, warm light, and time to discover how a small corner of Les Garrigues can fit into a bottle. Tros del Tossal doesn't try to resemble any other Syrah: it has the mountain in its very essence.
