About Castaño Monastrell Ecológico

Castaño Monastrell Ecológico is an organic red wine from the D.O. Yecla produced by the Castaño winery. This wine is made exclusively with the Monastrell grape variety, the most cultivated variety in the region. 

The vineyards used are less than a quarter of a century old, situated at an altitude of around 750 metres. The vines are cultivated using short pruning on low bush vines. The soils are chalky and stony. The density of the plantation is around 1,600 vines per hectare, with a yield of around 3,500kg’s per hectare.

After the harvest has been carried out and the grapes have been transported to the winery, fermentation is carried out at 28ºC and maceration for 10 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which is carried out in stainless steel tanks. Castaño Monastrell Ecológico is filtered but not stabilised before being bottled and placed onto the market.

The Castaño winery is a specialist in producing wines with the Monastrell variety. It was the first winery in the Yecla to bottle its products and currently, after 65 years of experience, the winery finds great success in exports, with 90% of its wines sold abroad, especially in the United States.
