Has it ever happened to you? You're scrolling through Instagram and suddenly that picture appears: the most epic party of the year, your friends laughing under neon lights, glasses raised... and you're in pyjamas on the sofa. That pang in your chest that makes you think "Wow, I'm missing out on the best night of my life!" If so, welcome to the world of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Yes, that little tingle of anxiety that reminds us that, in the digital age, everything seems to happen simultaneously... except for us.
Now imagine translating that concept to a place where there are no notifications, no filters, no rush: the island of Formentera, in the Balearic Islands (Spain). There, on the road leading to the lighthouse of Cap de Barbaria, lies a small winery founded in the year 2000 that seems designed to make you forget FOMO: Cap de Barbaria. Among vineyards bathed in sunlight and sea breezes, life is measured by daylight, the colour of the earth, and the rhythm of the harvests.
The wine Fomo 1 is born here, in an environment where each cluster is treated with absolute care. The monastrell and fogoneu varieties are harvested entirely by hand, together, and once at the winepress—located right next to the vineyard—they are destemmed and gently crushed. The stainless steel tanks receive the must, ready to begin alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature (26-28°C), aiming to enhance those Mediterranean qualities that only the island can offer. And once completed, the wine remains in contact with the skins for up to 30 days before being pressed and transferred to American oak barrels for 12 months, where malolactic fermentation occurs, and the wine achieves a more pleasant, elegant, and complex texture.
The result is a wine that, ironically, makes you forget FOMO: an invitation to live in the present without looking at the screen. Aromas of ripe fruit, hints of Mediterranean herbs, and a character that reflects the light and breeze of Formentera make Fomo 1 a reminder that some things must be experienced here and now. Because at Cap de Barbaria, life is not measured in likes or photos, but in sunsets, vineyards, and shared glasses. And that... is definitely something you won't want to miss.
