About Sclavos Alchymiste Red

Whether or not you are a follower of self-help books, you have surely heard of "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. A book in which the protagonist seeks not only the transmutation of metals into gold but also an internal and spiritual transformation that leads us to discover our true purpose. The message is clear: the real treasure lies not just in the destination, but in the journey we undertake to reach it.

In this context, Sclavos Alchymiste Red is a prime example of how the alchemy of viticulture becomes a work of art. Its name derives from an ancient Greek expression that merges the words "alchemy" and "xymos" (the juice), perfectly reflecting the connection between the wine's transformative process and alchemy itself.

Produced by Vladi Sclavos, a pioneer of biodynamic cultivation in Greece and acknowledged as a guru of natural wine, his winery, Sclavos, located on the island of Kefalonia, is the region's most emblematic, renowned for crafting organic wines that highlight the special characteristics of local varieties. With a family winemaking tradition dating back to 1919, he tends to his vineyards with dedication and passion, applying a biodynamic-homodynamic approach and being Greece's quintessential master of biodynamics.

This is exemplified in the Sclavos Alchymiste Red, a wine originating from vineyards cultivated in high-altitude limestone and marl soils, where the local grape variety mavrodafni takes centre stage. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, and to preserve its purity, it is bottled unfiltered and without added sulphur.

Just like the protagonist of The Alchemist, who discovers that the true treasure lies in the process itself and not in the final destination, the Sclavos Alchymiste Red is a juicy, vibrant, and 100% Mediterranean red wine that invites us to connect with the earth and the very essence of life, beyond its flavour, reminding us that the true treasure is in the process itself.

2022

Sclavos Alchymiste Red 2022 is a juicy red wine, notable for its lightness and youthful character. As you draw near to the glass, you are enveloped by floral and wild aromas, accompanied by intense notes of red fruits such as cherries and raspberries. On the palate, it is fresh, with a perfect balance between the juiciness of the red fruit and a subtle hint of Mediterranean herbs. Ideal for those who appreciate vibrant and fruity wines.
