Amontillado (50 cl.). 10 años bajo velo en flor and 5 años crianza oxidativa.

La Guita Amontillado en Rama is a complex fortified wine. Like all wines of this type, its dryness stands out, it is very tasty and saline, well balanced, leaving an elegant and persistent taste on the palate. Dried fruits (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds) appear on the nose. Caramel and spices are also noticeable. Delicious acidity.

About La Guita Amontillado en Rama

Biological or oxidative aging? That’s the question!

At Decántalo, we know that the world of fortified wines can be a bit complicated: manzanilla, fino, amontillado, oloroso, palo cortado, etc. Five different options and the same origin: the Palomino. So similar and yet so different. While finos and manzanillas are always covered by the so-called yeast cap (from the biological aging), oloroso and palo cortado are directly exposed to oxygen (hence oxidative aging). In the middle, halfway between the two options, is the amontillado, a wine that combines the two aging processes. Of all of these we would recommend La Guita Amontillado en Rama.

In general, and because of the two types of aging, amontillado is considered one of the most complete fortified wines. To find La Guita Amontillado en Rama, you have to travel to the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, in the heart of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, where this wine is produced. Currently, Bodega La Guita (founded in 1852 by Domingo Pérez Marín) belongs to the Jerez-based winemaking group José Estévez. In spite of this, La Guita Amontillado en Rama continues to bear the “made in Sanlúcar” label, with Palomino grapes grown in the Sanlúcar de Sanlúcar vineyards of Miraflores and Costeros. The unique system of criaderas and soleras, where the wine is an average of 15 years old (having spent ten undergoing biological aging and five undergoing oxidative aging), involves refreshing it with sacas manzanilla La Guita, always maintaining the unique character of this area of the Marco.

This very special brand got its name from an anecdote told by the founder. According to the story, every time a buyer came to the winery to buy wine, Domingo Pérez always asked the same question: “Got money?” After making sure his bottles were paid for, Domingo Perez fulfilled the orders. Since then, all their wines have been popularly known by that name, becoming one of the most famous brands in the Jerez region. They don’t do this anymore. There is no need for anyone to ask us if we have enough money. We have already warned you that there is not enough money in the world to pay for all that a bottle of La Guita Amontillado en Rama represents and all the history it holds.
