About Espelt Terres Negres

Terres Negres is a red wine from the Empordà prepared by Celler Espelt. It is a blend of Carignan (80%) and Grenache (20%).

The grapes are harvested from vineyards between 60 and 80 years old, which, in the case of the variety Carignan grow on chalky soils, and granite, in the case of Grenache.

The harvest is done manually and the grapes are transported in boxes of 15 kilos. Preselection is carried out in the field and plots are vinified one by one.

Once the cellar, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 28 °. The maximum maceration lasts 22 days.

Malolactic fermentation is then performed. Terres Negre is then aged on its lees for one year in French oak barrels. Finally, Terres Negres spends three months in stainless steel tanks on its lees. Before marketing, it will spend 12 months in bottle.

Celler Espelt uses the name of the family that owns the winery. They respect the nature of the vineyards and thus intervene little.

Espelt Terres Negres 2020 unfolds with an aromatic palette that conjures the subtlety of dried and withered flowers, interwoven with the opulence of ripe fruits such as plums and blackberries. On the palate, this red wine reveals itself to be eminently quaffable, distinguished by its extensive finish and harmonious equilibrium. The concentration of flavors bestows a remarkable presence, rendering each sip a testament to its expressiveness and sophistication. 2018

Espelt Terres Negres 2018 is a powerful red wine. The nose is intense and clean, with aromas of liquorice, black fruit and graphite. The palate is complex and strong, with good acidity and lots of life.
2013 Long and bulky. Good balance and acidity. Persevering end.

Intense red. Overcast and bright.

Complex and high intensity. Notes of ripe black fruit and toasty aromas and spices.
2012 Voluminous and extensive. Well balanced and with good acidity. Aftertaste is long and persistent.

Cherry red with violet hues. Very cloudy. It is intense, fine and sparkling.

2011 A red wine with lots of character. It is a bulky wine with a wide mid palate marked by a good balance between its ripe and sweet tannins and its good, refreshing and integrated acidity. Long and persistent finish.  A great Spanish wine.


Intense dark cherry red colour with violet reflections. High robe. Intense, clean and bright.

Complex nose, full of nuances. High intensity aromas with outstanding notes of very ripe black fruit (blackberries and other berries), which are released along with mellow toasted notes and sweet spices such as vanilla. Good and interesting evolution in the glass.

2007 Powerful attack, with a silky and flavourful mid palate. At this stage, it is the oak who takes centre stage filling the mouth with spicy and toasted notes. Balanced wine, with ripe tannins. Long and persistent finish.

Very intense cherry colour with violet trims. Bright. Fine and abundant tears.

In the nose, the notes provided by the oak stand out: very spicy and toasted notes with mineral and herbal hints that give way to the notes of ripe fruit which emerge with force as the wine is aerated.
