About Domaine Lafage Authentique

In the 1980s Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage took on Domaine Lafage, the family winery, located in Roussillon, and founded two centuries ago. Since then, this estate, which started with some 36 hectares between Perpignan, Canet and Maury, has been passed from parents to children, expanding to the current 350 hectares. The Domaine Lafage Authentique red wine is the result of this great richness and blend of terroirs.

The origin of Domaine Lafage Authentique, which is part of the A.O.C. Côtes-du-Roussillon, is found on the Mediterranean coast, in Aspres and in the Agly Valley. In these three areas, they grow the Syrah, Carignan and Grenache (respectively), the three varieties that make up the unique blend of this wine. While the pebbles from the coast bring freshness, the clay and quartz from Aspres bring elegance. The most original and authentic touch is provided by the slate and marl from the Agly river.

Despite years of experience, at Domaine Lafage, they remain faithful champions of the most traditional winemaking. For this reason, every process and every wine follows the old style, including the grape harvest, which is still done by hand. After an initial sorting, Domaine Lafage Authentique is processed to form a grape pulp that will be macerated. During this resting period, fermentation also begins and finishes after approximately 21 days. Finally, after processing, Domaine Lafage Authentique is devatted. 20% of the wine is transferred to new barrels while the remaining 80% of the wine rests in tanks (where it will be pumped over weekly).

You certainly won’t find any other red wine that better captures the most authentic spirit of Roussillon.
