About De La Riva Macharnudo San Cayetano Vino de Pasto

Behind the names of Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibáñez, one finds the “latest generation of enlightened minds from Andalusia”. Two audacious young men who met at the oenology university in Cádiz, and whose passion for the wines of Jerez led them to take charge of De la Riva in addition to their own personal ventures. This is one of the wineries that has best preserved its connection with the vineyard since the late 19th century, and which in 2017, these two wine enthusiasts decided to revive with the aim of preserving the ancient vinifications of traditional estates.

Thus, presented with labels very similar to the originals, Willy and Ramiro have taken the wine market by surprise with their very limited and unique productions that greatly enrich the complex history of Jerez. So much so that one of their creations, De La Riva Macharnudo San Cayetano Vino de Pasto, has become the first Jerez wine to represent Spain at the Place de Bordeaux.

So, is it not a mark of quality that a Vino de Pasto, a traditional 19th-century Jerez concoction without added alcohol, has become a protagonist in what is the historic network of wine sales in Bordeaux? A feat achieved by sourcing top-quality palomino grapes from a 3.35-hectare vineyard planted in 1988 on albariza soils. Once harvested, the grapes are lightly sunned to gain a bit more alcohol content. They then ferment in cask and are aged under a veil of yeast for one to two years.

It is through this meticulous process that De La Riva Macharnudo San Cayetano Vino de Pasto has achieved recognition and the highest scores from international critics. A Vino de Pasto with a particularly special complexity that has made a grand entrance into the mecca of wine.

2022

De La Riva Macharnudo San Cayetano Vino de Pasto 2022 unfolds a bouquet of floral and perfumed aromas. On the palate, it reveals a dryness and roundness. Its dense texture, reminiscent of thick honey, is interwoven with saline, spicy notes and a luminous core of lemon, peach, and pear. It offers a serene and sophisticated experience, with a pleasant acidity and bursts of fresh citrus that evoke the essence of a sea breeze. A limited production of 6,000 bottles.
