Clynelish 18 Years Old is a single malt whisky with a golden hue, clean and vibrant, revealing aromas of ripe pineapple, mango, melon, and lychee, alongside vanilla, toffee, and a delicate hint of lemon cake. On the palate, it is creamy and silky, with the characteristic waxy texture of Clynelish intertwined with orange blossom honey, tangy fruits, and a lively touch of white pepper. The finish is warm and persistent, leaving notes of toffee, citrus peel, spices, and a subtle saline hint. Can a whisky born on the coast of Scotland capture a hint of tropical sunshine? Clynelish seems determined to prove it can. Clynelish 18 Years Old Waxen Sun originates from an unusual idea: during distillation, a small portion of the liquid is separated early on, just as the lighter, more tropical aromas emerge. This is known as the "Pineapple Cut," a subtle gesture that, after eighteen years of waiting, results in a surprisingly bright character in the glass.
 
For over two centuries, Clynelish has gazed out over the sea from Sutherland, in the north of Scotland. There, amidst wind, coast, and open landscapes, the distillery has crafted a distinctive identity, characterised by a waxy texture that seems to balance between fruit, honey, and salinity. Clynelish 18 Years Old Waxen Sun takes this personality a step further, towards a less expected horizon.
 
The key lies in this small distillation experiment and a patient maturation of at least eighteen years in second-fill barrels, allowing the spirit itself to shine through. The result plays with two worlds: the depth brought by time and a tropical liveliness reminiscent of ripe pineapple, wrapped in honey and that characteristic waxy sensation of Clynelish. Bottled at cask strength, it retains an intensity that invites gradual exploration, allowing the whisky to evolve as it opens up in the glass.
 
Clynelish 18 Years Old Waxen Sun is a whisky to be savoured without haste, as the afternoon light fades and the bottle takes over the conversation. A small journey from the coast of Sutherland to somewhere much warmer, without leaving the terrace. Sometimes, following the trail of an unexpected fruit is enough to discover that the horizon was a little further than we thought.
