About Cascina Fontana Barolo

Cascina Fontana Barolo is a barrel-aged red wine made by Cascina Fontana in the Italian denomination of DOCG Barolo (Piedmont) with the Nebbiolo variety.

Cascina Fontana Cascina Fontana is a family winery located in the Langhe hills of Barolo. This wine area is a UNESCO World Heritage site. 6 generations of the Fontana family have cultivated and vinified their vineyards here with the utmost respect for the land. Today, Mario Fontana carries this world-renowned legacy.

Cascina Fontana Barolo is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in three family vineyards located in the municipalities of Castiglione Falletto, Gallinotto and La Morra. These are mountainous areas with soils characterised by their composition of ancient marine sediments that are very rich in minerals and trace elements. The team use environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes are well ripened.

In the winery, Cascina Fontana Barolo macerates with its skins for about 20-25 days and ferments in stainless steel tanks for 8 months. The wine is then aged in 25 hectolitre Slavic oak barrels for 2 years. Finally, all the barrels are re-mixed in stainless steel and stay there for 12 months before being bottled without filtering, clarifying or adding sulphites. The wine ages in the bottle for a year before being released.

2015 Cascina Fontana Barolo 2015 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe red fruits and a delicious spicy background of incense and sandalwood. On the palate it is rich, complex and very silky. A fruity and balanced wine with very well integrated tannins. It has a lingering and persistent finish.
