Remírez de Ganuza Olagar Gran Reserva Blanco is a white wine produced by Bodegas Remírez de Ganuza in Samaniego (Rioja Alavesa), within D.O.Ca. Rioja.
Founded in 1989, Bodegas Remírez de Ganuza was born as the personal commitment of its founder, Fernando Remírez de Ganuza.
During the 70s and 80s, Fernando was dedicated to the purchase of old vineyards in the Rioja Alavesa. This allowed him to know and select the best plots to develop his project: to produce high-quality wines with the best grapes and in the best conditions. To do so, he has not spared in resources in the vineyard and in technology for the winery, pioneering in the application of innovative production systems.
Currently, the vineyards occupy more than eighty hectares of Tempranillo, Graciano, Viura and Malvoisie, distributed throughout six towns of Sierra Cantabria. In all of them, the habitat, the microclimate, the orientation of the plots, the low yield of the vines and the age of the vineyard have been taken into account for their selection, the average age of the vines being fifty years.
Remírez de Ganuza Olagar Gran Reserva Blanco is a wine made from Garnacha, Viura and Malvoisie, from old vineyards located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, planted at around 600 metres of altitude on clayey-calcareous soils.
The harvest is performed by hand and placed in 12-kg boxes. Once the grapes arrive at winery, they are placed into a cool chamber at 4-6ºC. Once they have gone past the selection table, the wine is made only with the flor must. It ferments in new 225-litre French oak barrels, where it ages for 12 months with its lees, stirring them by turning the barrels.
