About Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas branco

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Branco is a white wine aged on lees produced by the Luis Pato Portuguese winery in the DOC Bairrada (Beiras) with the Bical, Sercialinho and Sercial varieties.

The first winegrower in the Bairrada region (Portugal), João Pato started the family winery in 1970. Then his son Luis Pato, took over and continued with the same entrepreneurial spirit, using methods that were innovative in the 80s like destemming and aging in new French oak barrels. He is known for being the first Vinhas Velhas wine producer in Portugal.

Of the 60 hectares of vineyards that the Pato family owns, Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Branco is made with a mixture of three native varieties. These strains have an average age of 15 years old. The Bical variety grows in clay-calcareous soil and the Cerceal and the Sercialinho grown in sandy soils. The team uses environmentally friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

In the winery, the Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Branco grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. The must then ferments in stainless steel tanks for 4 months. Finally, it ages on lees and undergoes malolactic fermentation in new 650-litre Allier French oak barrels for 6 months.

Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas Branco is an aromatic, light and balanced wine. A very gastronomic white that is perfect for opening alongside a wide variety of dishes.

2018 Luis Pato Vinhas Velhas branco 2018 is an aromatic white wine with fragrances of fresh white fruit, citrus and light smoky touches. On the palate it is light, delicate and balanced. A medium bodied white with an elegant mid palate and a long, fresh finish.
