About Château Le Pin

Château Le Pin is a wood-aged red wine made with the Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties by Château Le Pin in the AOC Pomerol, in Bordeaux (France).

Owned by the Belgian Thienpont family since 1979, Château Le Pin is named after a lone pine tree that grows near the winery. The estate is just 2 hectares in size and lies on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, near the village of Catusseau. In the vintages that it is made, this winery offers one of the most exclusive and expensive limited productions in the world.

Château Le Pin comes from an exceptional vineyard of vines with an average age of 32 years old, planted in clay, gravel and sand soil and with very limited production. The vines are cultivated using environmentally-friendly agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

In the winery, the grapes are traditionally vinified. Château Le Pin firstly ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and then the wine ages for 18 months in new 225-litre French oak barrels. Every year they produce between 600 and 700 boxes on average, although there are years that it is not made. It is only made in the years that the grape reaches optimum quality.

Château Le Pin is a true gem of a wine made on a very small Bordeaux estate. Considered to be one of the most exclusive and exceptional wines in Pomerol, with prices higher than Petrus itself, this wine borders on perfection.
2016 Château Le Pin 2016 is a concentrated red wine with aromatic hints of ripe red fruit compote, a medley of flower petals, sweet spices and hints of tobacco. On the palate it is medium-bodied, rich and luxurious. This wine is richly fruity with plenty of exotic spices and the finish is very long and persistent.

2011 Château Le Pin 2011 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of caramelised fruits and cherry liqueur, sweet spicy notes and hints of coffee. On the palate it is voluminous, full and deep. A medium-bodied wine with a silky texture and bright acidity. It has a lingering and very persistent finish.
