As 2 Ladeiras Selección is a white wine produced by the winery Viñedos Somoza in A Rúa de Valdeorras, Ourense. D.O. Valdeorras.

 

Viñedos Somoza is a winery that was founded in the first third of the 20th century by Victor Fernández. His idea was to make wines with the grapes from his vineyards, after hard work of recovering the native varieties.

After 2 generations, Viñedos Somoza performs its activity with the latest technological advances in oenology, without leaving behind the inherited winemaking tradition. However, it was from 2015 when they carried out a drastic change with the incorporation of Javier García (Bodega 4 Monos, Madrid). They intended to make wine from their 5 hectares of vineyard with the least intervention possible. The results are wines that express all the potential of the variety and the terroir.

 

As 2 Ladeiras Selección is a wine made from Godello from vineyards located at more than 500 metres of altitude, on the hills of the Bibei and Xares rivers, planted mainly on slate soils.

They are manually harvested and placed in 15 kg boxes. Grapes are selected in the vineyards. Right when they arrive at the winery they go through cold maceration for 24-48 hours. After this, they are pressed and subject to a static settling process. The fermentation is spontaneous, with native yeasts and temperature control in French oak barrels and vats. This wine is aged for 8 months in the same barrels with its fine lees.

 

 

2019

As 2 Ladeiras Selección 2019 is an intense, elegant and fresh wine. The aromas of ripe white fruit stand out, with notes of flowers and dry grass. In the mouth it is unctuous but easy to drink, with a prominent minerality that makes it very long lasting.
