Anselmo Mendes Muros de Melgaço is a wood-aged white wine made by Anselmo Mendes with the Albariño variety in Vinho Verde, in the Minho region (Portugal).
An advisor to important Portuguese wineries, Anselmo Mendes is considered one of the best winemakers in the country. An great expert of the Albariño variety, he knows how to combine tradition with innovation better than anyone and as a result, on his family estate in Monçao, he produces wines that are very typical of their variety and that tell stories of the land they are born in.
Anselmo Mendes Muros de Melgaço comes from vineyards that are heavily influenced by the Atlantic climate. These are 10-year-old vines planted in deep, very granite soils. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture and when the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are manually harvested and quickly taken to the winery in small boxes.
In the winery, the Anselmo Mendes Muros de Melgaço grapes are destemmed and gently pressed, then the resulting must is lightly decanted. Fermentation then begins in French oak barrels with continuous riddling for 6 months.
Anselmo Mendes Muros de Melgaço is a barrel-fermented white wine that perfectly combines the characteristics of the Albariño grape with the consistent and elegant touch of wood.
