About Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl
Like all living things, the life cycle of the vine goes through different stages: growth, development, peak and old age. In the first three years of growth, the grapes it produces are not suitable for winemaking. In fact, it reaches its peak between 10 and 30 years of age, which is when it produces the greatest quantity of grapes. After this, production reduces, but the concentration of the must is higher, so this is the stage that the fruit is considered a real treasure. At Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, a leading winery in Alsace set up in 1959 from the joining together of two important wine-producing families, their old vines are cultivated with extreme care to produce great wines from the noble grape varieties that are characteristic of this French region.
Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl is a single-variety Pinot Gris that comes from old vines planted in the 1960s and 1970s in rocky limestone soils at high altitude. In order to respect the plant as much as possible, cultivation is based on biodynamic principles and the grapes are harvested by hand after late ripening. When the grapes reach the winery, they are extensively selected, destemmed and pressed. Then the resulting must ferments very slowly at a controlled temperature. Finally the wine is aged on lees in old wooden foudres for 17 months.
So, with a total of 40 hectares of vineyards spread over a spectacular geological mosaic, the expertise of Zind-Humbrecht allows us to enjoy the best expression of the terroir. Something that is even more true in this Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl. A fresh and mineral wine with character that shows the splendor that old vines can offer.
2013 | Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl 2013 is a creamy white wine with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, intense honey notes and herbal hints. On the palate it is dry, fresh and mineral. A medium-bodied wine with fierce acidity, a characterful palate and a long, discreetly sweet finish. |
