In 1883, during the zenith of his creativity, the esteemed Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer penned "Vora la Mar," a poem that exalts the landscape and spirit of the Mediterranean, kept private until its publication years later. Thus, when the winery Alella Vinícola, housed in a modernist cathedral erected in 1906 by one of Antoni Gaudí’s disciples, joins the Social Wine series project—wines crafted through collaboration between sommeliers, viticulturists, and oenologists with the aim of captivating all wine lovers—it is no coincidence that the resulting wine shares the name of the poem.
Made from pansa blanca (the local name for xarel·lo), Vora la Mar originates from vineyards located just 2 km from the Mediterranean Sea and 10 km from Barcelona. This proximity to the sea is pivotal to its character. Organic vines planted on sandy soils of granitic origin, known as sauló, benefit from the gentle sea breeze, which imparts a unique freshness and personality to the wine. In the winery, its vinification is meticulous: it ferments in stainless steel tanks, with a portion resting on its own lees, endowing it with greater complexity and smoothness.
Vora la Mar is much more than a wine: it is a tribute to the Mediterranean and the rich winemaking tradition of Alella. A wine that encapsulates the magic of the fusion between sea and mountain, offering a unique experience with every sip.
