About Selvadolce Bianco

If we imagine life as a river flowing with vigour, even though we may have a clear idea of where we want to navigate, the course of the river often changes and takes us on unexpected paths. These twists and turns are not always detrimental; in fact, they often lead us to places we never knew existed, to surprising discoveries and enriching experiences. Aristide (Aris) Blancardi has uniquely mastered the art of trusting the process, enjoying the journey, and remaining open to the opportunities life presents. Although he initially started as a horse veterinarian, circumstances in the year 2000 led him to swap animals for flowers to save the family floriculture business. From there, he began to delve into the world of horticulture and viticulture. In a short time, without any prior knowledge of the subject, he developed a keen interest in learning more about the world of wine and, through inquiry, observation, and learning, he became a non-interventionist winemaker on the 7 hectares of vineyard he owns on his estate Tenuta Selvadolce in the village of Bordighera, in Liguria (Italy).

With fewer than 10 vintages under his belt, the journey has not been a bed of roses. However, climatic adversities such as a severe drought in 2022 that caused him to lose 70% of his production did not make him give up. On the contrary, seeing that he could not bottle his two typical single-varietals of vermentino and pigato due to a lack of grapes, Aris ingeniously decided to blend the two Ligurian classics and thus launched Selvadolce Bianco. A white wine whose grapes, under the influence of the sun, strong winds, and the sea, are cultivated following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The harvest is done manually, and once in the winery, the clusters ferment spontaneously in oak vats with indigenous yeasts. The entire process is natural, without adding possible oenological additives that might alter the results.

Having established Selvadolce as one of the iconic biodynamic wineries in Italy and one of the most sustainable in Liguria, Selvadolce Bianco is a fresh and saline wine from IGP Terrazze Imperiese that embodies an entire philosophy of life. It represents a way of doing things that, against all odds, has remained flexible, adapting to changes and, above all, maintaining a positive attitude.
