You never know what the future holds. Someone who can attest to this is Andrew Bailey, an intrepid New Zealander from a winemaking family who arrived in the Netherlands in 2005 to play cricket for a brief period and, without having planned it, met his Dutch wife, got married and started importing wine from New Zealand. The business went from strength to strength and so he decided to take it a step further in 2009 when he returned home to Marlborough and set up his own winemaking project, together with former cricket teammate and partner Jarrod Englefield. The name of the winery, “Misty Cove”, comes from the beautiful scenery of the Marlborough Sound (South Island). A spectacular tourist destination with beach and virgin forest where sea water evaporates due to the heat of the sun and eventually turns into fog. A very beautiful and mysterious scene that has served as a source of inspiration to Andrew when it comes to making wines. Their Misty Cove Organic Pinot Noir is sourced from four traditional organic Pinot Noir clones in the southern Marlborough valleys. These are sustainable vineyards planted on loamy, earthy and clay soils where no genetically modified organisms, pesticides or herbicides are used. The grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes and, once they reach the winery, the grapes are destemmed and crushed to begin fermentation and maceration at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine is aged in French oak, 20% of which is new oak.

As a result, purity and expressiveness surround Misty Cove Organic Pinot Noir. An organic red wine that, without strange interventions and masks, has earned recognition from wine lovers from all over the world. A masterful move!
