Matías Riccitelli Viejos Viñedos en Pie Franco Malbec 2018 is a concentrated red wine with complex aromas of ripe red and black fruit, notes of fresh violets and hints of spice. On the palate it is ample, juicy and fresh. A medium-bodied wine with noticeable acidity, fine tannins and a long finish, with an intense aftertaste.

About Matías Riccitelli Viejos Viñedos en Pie Franco Malbec

Branching out from your family and carving your own path can’t be easy. And even more so when your predecessor receives the “World's Best Winemaker” award from the prestigious US Wine Enthusiast magazine. However, there is no stopping Matias. After harvesting grapes halfway around the world and learning first-hand about the culture and winemaking traditions of the most remote places on the planet, he returned home with one goal: to set up his own project with a unique personality. This is how he started out in Las Compuertas, the highest area of Luján de Cuyo, in Mendoza (Argentina). With 20 hectares of old free-standing vineyards at more than 1,100 metres above sea level, his work has become one of the most awarded and recognised new projects in the world. Pure and delicate wines that reflect the maximum expression of each terroir.

His Matías Riccitelli Viejos Viñedos en Pie Franco Malbec is a single-variety wine made with the area’s star variety, Malbec. These are old vines on clay-loam soils that are traditionally cultivated and harvested by hand in 15 kg crates. In the winery, the clusters are carefully destemmed and fermentation is carried out with native yeasts at a controlled temperature of between 26º and 28ºC for several weeks. Finally, the wine is aged in French oak barrels of different uses for 16 months.
