About Léon Barral Valinière
Recognised as one of the leading representatives of biodynamics in France, Didier Barral focusses all his efforts on the soil in his 35 hectares in Lanthéric, Languedoc-Roussillon. However, he has replaced machinery and wine products with a charming herd of cows. The farm animals on the estate are the real stars of his Léon Barral project, which is named after his father. They serve both as a herbicide and as a natural fertiliser and, in return, Barral gains a soil that is rich in microorganisms and a pure expression of the AOC Faugères denomination.
Léon Barral Valinière is a cuvée of Mourvèdre and Syrah. These are old vines planted on steep slopes of deep schist that are cultivated as they were in the old days, with organic products taken from the micro-ecosystem itself and following the lunar phases. The winery also follows a traditional approach with fermentation using native yeasts, 3-4 weeks of maceration and 18 months of aging in used French oak barrels.
Léon Barral Valinière is a pure Faugères that expresses the true foundations of the Domaine. A full-bodied, spicy and somewhat wild blend that will develop its perfect expression in 5 years.
2017 |
Léon Barral Valinière 2017 is a concentrated red wine with an expressive, intense and complex nose of ripe black fruit, withered roses and spicy notes. The palate is full, enveloping and meaty. It has rounded tannins and a pleasant acidity. The finish is lingering and persistent. |
