About La Suffrene Du Var Rosé
When we talk about Vin de Pays we are talking about regional wines that are not subject to the complex and restrictive laws that govern denominations. The producer can make his wine exactly how they want to. However, it also responds to a set of conditions that, although less strict than in an AOP, give its wines their own identity. With over 100 Vin de Pays denominations, Vin du Var is located on the southern coast of France and, although it has always been known for its special red Mourvèdre wine, the popularity of rosé de Provence has meant more and more producers are focusing on making this type of wine. Cédric Gravier, a winemaker who took on the family estate in La Cadière-d'Azur, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur in 1996, is one of the quality producers in the south of France. At just 23 years old, he replaced his grandfather and left the local cooperative to start making his own wines, which are exceptional and have really caught people’s attention.
With a picturesque location by the Mediterranean, his La Suffrene Du Var Rosé wine comes from a combination of Cariñena, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault grapes. The vines are planted in dark brown, fertile soils and organically cultivated. With a maximum yield of 90 hl/ha, the grapes are harvested by hand with a selection process in the vineyard and the winery. They are then vinified in the winery at controlled temperatures with carbonic maceration for the Cariñena.
As one of the leading wine producers in Provence, La Suffrene Du Var Rosé represents all that is good about the South of France. A clear, lively and fruity rosé that proclaims the success of artisan winemakers who work how they want to.
2021 | La Suffrene Du Var Rosé 2021 is a fruity rosé wine with aromas of fresh red fruit, citrus notes and herbal hints. On the palate, it is delicious, crisp and juicy. A wine with a fresh entry, a pleasant mid-palate and a subtly spicy finish. |
