About Fonterenza Rosso di Montalcino

Fonterenza Rosso di Montalcino is a monovarietal red wine made from Sangiovese. It belongs to the DOC Rosso di Montalcino and is produced by the young Fonterenza winery.

Fonterenzais a winery in Tuscany run by the twin Padovani sisters. They founded the winery in 1997 and planted their first vineyard in 1999. They currently have different plots that extend over 4 hectares, which they cultivate biodynamically. They produce "Brunellos" with a lot of ageing potential, together with fresher and juicier natural reds.

The vineyard for Fonterenza Rosso di Montalcino is planted in clay-sand soils. It is exposed to the northeast, has a planting density of 4,900 plants per hectare and was planted in 2005. The grapes are harvested by hand to respect them as much as possible, and to ensure they arrive in the cellar as whole as possible.

Once in the cellar, the grapes forFonterenza Rosso di Montalcino ferment at a maximum temperature of 27ºC and macerate with the skins for 15 to 20 days. The must is then aged in 20 and 35 hectolitre oak barrels for 15 months, and lastly aged in a 38hl foudre for 3 months.

2015 Fonterenza Rosso di Montalcino 2015 is a wine with intense and complex aromas. It has notes of red fruit, plums, woody spices and moist earth over a balsamic base note, and with toasted sensations in its finish. On the palate it has a rustic flavour, warmth, a good body, soft tannins and certain pleasant and tasty notes.
