About Domaine Gayda Chemin de Moscou

The Compagnie Générale Aeropostal known as “la Aeropostal” was a French airline that worked as a transatlantic postal and passenger service. Legend has it that the “Moscow Tree”, a huge pine tree on the road leading to the present-day Domaine Gayda, in Brugairolles, in Languedoc (France), was used as a navigational point for aviators. Knocked down during a storm, Gayda wanted to pay tribute to it through a cuvée called Chemin de Moscou (Moscow Road). Following this winery’s style, it is an exceptional cuvée that reflects the unique character of the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

Founded in 2004, the Domaine Gayda winery has stood out for its focus on sustainable viticulture and making wines that reflect the terroir. With vineyards in various areas of Languedoc, they make Domaine Gayda Chemin de Moscou by combining winemaking tradition with modern and sustainable approaches. Low-yielding Syrah, red Grenache and Cinsault vines are harvested by hand and transported in small crates. In the winery, the grapes are manually selected berry by berry and destemmed to begin a traditional fermentation with 2 weeks of post-fermentation maceration in stainless steel tanks. Then, for 9 months, 1/3 of the Syrah is aged in new Burgundy barrels and the Grenache and Cinsault in demi-muids and barrels. Finally, the best barrels of each variety are blended and remain in the same containers for 12 months.

Under the name Domaine Gayda Chemin de Moscou, in honour of a tree that served as an pilot’s guide, this wine represents the combination of respect for nature and technological advances at the same time. A great wine from the IGP Pays d'Oc that introduces us to the Languedoc-Roussillon.
