Animals and their characters always have good lessons for us to look to. The dragonfly is one of them. This insect has always attracted our attention because it adapts quickly to land, water and the air. This flexibility has been a source of inspiration for Marie and Florian, a couple of winegrowers with a clearly non-interventionist approach, who work under the Domaine Curtet brand, showcasing this natural skill by having a dragonfly on each of their labels. Influenced by their predecessor and founder of the estate Jacques Maillet, one of the great names in biodynamic viticulture in Savoie (France), they work with gregariousness and creativity in every part of the process to make wines of crystal clear precision and purity.
Domaine Curtet Mondeuse is an example of this obsession with the terroir. Made from vineyards nestled between lakes and mountains, on the steep slopes of Serrières in Chautagne, in the Rhône (AOC Savoie), Marie and Florian cultivate their small biodynamic garden. These Mondeuse variety vines flourish on a siliceous sandstone soil and, through a different way of working, require observation, exigency and precision. As a result of this thorough work in the vineyard, winemaking is minimally interventionist, using whole grapes, nothing artificial and a 12 month aging in foudres. The result couldn’t be better. Pure fruit juice that showcases the best that a unique terroir has to offer.
